Picnic with the Pops

The scene is set. A blanket rests ever so gently on the fresh-cut grass with its corners carefully anchored so that the gentle evening breeze does not disturb its perfection. A wicker basket sits open at one corner; it’s contents of wine, cheese and other picnic delights are easily accessible for the taking. The flicker of candlelight flows through the area as family and friends, husbands and wives, children and parents settle in. The rich sounds of laughter and good conversation slowly soften as the musicians begin tuning their instruments. Finally, the familiar voice of conductor Albert-George Schram floats from the stage to greet the anxious crowd. His wand is poised and ready to dance. So begins the night…

Such is the scene every year at The Columbus Symphony’s Picnic With The Pops Concert Series. This year's great concert lineup includes: Wyonna Judd, Patriotic Pops with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Peabo Bryson, The Music of Led Zepplin a Rock Symphony, Picnic with the Classics (a Wednesday concert), Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers, and The OSU Marching Band. Some select concerts even feature stunning fireworks shows.

While packing your own picnic is encouraged and part of the fun, you may also reserve a table right down by the stage and have your evening catered by Picnic With The Pop’s official caterer Catering by Design. On-site vendors/sponsors are also placed at strategic spots around the area and include Donatos Pizza, Graeter’s Ice Cream, Skyward Concessions and Sno Shack.

The Columbus Symphony’s Picnic With The Pops Concert Series takes place on the lawn at Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) 2540 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio. The same great spot you’ve come to enjoy since 1982! Gates open at 6 pm for picnicking and fun. Concerts begin at 8:15 pm.
