The Broadway production of this tour also earned eleven Tony Awards nominations in 2006, was produced by the likes of Quincy Jones and Oprah, and gave American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino yet another stage on which to to shine. The Color Purple sadly ended its Broadway run on February 24, 2008, but after recouping its $11 million investment within its first year on Broadway, and grossing over $103 million to date.
