The address may read “New Albany,” but once past the front door, the look is pure Hamptons. As with all New Albany homes, the architecture is strictly Georgian, yet the homeowners have been successful in finding a way of expressing their own personal style. Drawing on East-Coast-vacation and European flair, homeowners Karen and Wayne selected a Ralph Lauren espresso brown for the foyer and front living room. This rich color immediately gives visitors the impression of style. “We've traveled quite a bit and have always loved the clean, crisp looks found in urban lofts and modern hotels,” says Karen. She also loves to mix in a bit of shabby chic in her decorating style. “I couldn't resist a crystal chandelier for the dining room,” she adds. The mahogany table is offset by white slip-covered chairs, and a gilded mirror rounds out the room and brings another layer of sophistication to this home.
Step into the kitchen and the only thing missing is the saltwater breeze. White bead-board woodwork, custom cabinetry and the crispness of stainless steel appliances truly give the feeling of East-Coast living. French doors with retractable screens open to a delightful view of the New Albany Country Club Golf Course. “It's like dining al fresco at your favorite Country Club restaurant,” suggests Wayne.
A discreet central staircase gives way to three bedrooms on the second level. The master suite and bath are the essence of “hotel living.” The master suite features a gas fireplace and views overlooking the brick patio and landscaped backyard. The master bath is adorned with travertine marble, black granite, a handcrafted vanity, a whirlpool tub, and a spa-like, four-headed shower. In addition, two other bedrooms offer neutral décor, walk-in closets, a Jack & Jill bath, and fabulous views of the golf course and mature trees that speckle the property.
The amenities continue… Off the back hallway, another set of stairs lead to the carriage suite over the three-car garage. Complete with a bedroom, built-in cabinetry and a full bath, this carriage suite is perfect for out-of-town guests visiting for the weekend. “This is one of our favorite parts of the home. Our guests can enjoy their own private retreat at the end of a full day of sight-seeing or shopping at nearby Easton,” says Karen.
Spring and summer bring living at 7609 Lambton Park Road even closer to resort-style living. Bicycle paths connecting to the New Albany Country Club, summer grilling and dining on the private courtyard patio, tennis and swimming at the club, and basketball in the backyard all add up to a season full of fun.
“One of the nicest things about the traditional, classic architecture of our New Albany home is the way it creates a backdrop for almost any style,” says Karen and Wayne. “You can never go wrong with hardwood floors, detailed molding and upgraded finishes.” It’s hard to disagree that this house encompasses the best that New Albany has to offer.
