Chris King grew up in Cincinnati and spent several years working as a furniture fashion coordinator for Federated Department Stores designing showrooms. Once Federated moved to Atlanta, King decided it was time to start his own design business and opened Manifesto, Inc. eight years ago.
An Ohio State University graduate in Design, King began working his craft long before he was ever truly educated in it. “As a child, I made mini furniture and entered art contests, and to this day I still love drawing and designing,” he reflects fondly.
King has made a home for his business in the Capital City and just bought a new building on Franklin Avenue to relocate Manifesto, Inc. from its German Village location. “I love working in Columbus,” he says. “Columbus people are design educated and becoming more sophisticated with their tastes…”
With the ability to design both commercial and residential spaces, King asserts, “I give my customers their own look by considering what they already have and listening to what they want. I get my greatest joy when I turn a house that a client doesn’t like into a home that they love.”
King’s business is his manifesto: his declaration that he designs, and does it well. “Design is my gift. To me, designing is taking chaos and putting it in order, making people happy by creating beautiful spaces.”
